Hot Air as an Implicit Side Payment Arrangement : Could a Hot Air Provision have Saved the Kyoto - Agreement ?

چکیده

The purpose of this paper is to analyse whether the presence of Hot Air trading jeopardizes the environmental target of an international environmental agreement. We argue that Hot Air can be used as an implicit side-payment mechanism to actually bring about higher environmental protection compared to the situation without the trade option. We point to the existence of a fundamental trade-off between costs of compliance and the creation of dynamic incentives to develop cheaper reduction technologies. Implicit side-payments, in terms of Hot Air provision, may be needed in order to establish a compromise between these opposing demands. We identify the shortcomings and benefits of allowing fully flexible permit trading including the allocation rule of grandfathering. JEL Classification: Q28; H2; H4.

Techno-Economic Assessment of Heat Recovery in Series Condensers Arrangement: Hot and Humid Regions

A direct expansion (DX) HVAC system is an efficient way to supply fresh and dehumidified air to a built environment. To improve the efficiency of a conventional DX system in hot and humid regions, fresh air dehumidification and conditioning systems with energy recovery measures are the key equipment to reach such a goal. To achieve this goal an integrated system is proposed. The integrated syst...

The Kyoto Protocol: “Hot air” for Russia?

The Kyoto Protocol sets the carbon emission targets for 2008-2012 for the major emitting countries. Several former Soviet countries have emissions quotas that appear to be in excess of their anticipated emissions as a result of economic downturn. This excess is sometimes referred to as ”hot air”, and could, in principle, be traded with other countries. The “hot air” estimates range from 150 to ...

Kinetic Modeling of Mass Transfer During Roasting of Soybeans Using Combined Infrared-Hot Air Heating

ABSTRACT: Roasting is one of the widespread methods for processing of nuts and beans that significantly enhances the flavor, color, texture and appearance of the products. In this research the kinetics and modeling of soybean roasting using combined infrared-hot air system and consumption of energy were investigated. The effect of the hot air temperature (160, 180 and 200 ºC), infrared powers (...

Turbulent Events and Gas-Side Mass Transfer Coefficients in a Wavy Air-Water Stratified Flow

Turbulence structure on the gas side of a wavy stratified flow was experimentally investigated in a near horizontal 18.7 cm (H) 10 cm (W) 5.5m (L) rectangular duct.By applying the Variable Interval Time Averaging (VITA) technique to the hot wire anemometer measurements frequency of occurrence of turbulent events were detected near the air-water interface. Experimental results showed that fr...

Thermal Modeling for Predication of Automobile Cabin Air Temperature

Thermal modeling of an automotive cabin was performed in this paper to predict the inside cabin air temperature. To implement this task, thermal and ventilation loads were estimated and the mass and energy balance conservation equations for dry air and water vapor with considering a new parameter (air circulation ratio) as well as the balance equations of internal components of a cabin were de...
